I wanted a widget to give simple access to the pocketwater irc server, which runs CGIIRC. I based it on a sample "hello world" widget by Kaf Osea.

The appearance is very clean, just a nickname field and a login button. The Title and the button label are configurable. 

the Wordpress folks have also made available a fantastic interface for widget configuration. This makes it possible to configure the major parameters for the widget via the administrative console. I made use of this and site admins can configure the title, cgiirc script locations, the default channel to join and the login button text.

To install the CGIIRC widget, download the file from the link below and unzip it into your plugin directory. Then enable the plugin via your sites administrative console, configure it for your server and add it to a side bar. Nice and simple.
